ChangeGame Meeting the challenging of change

previous event ChangeMaster services overview next event

Why you should attend

Most changes fail to meet their objectives, new innovations are often extremely difficult to introduce across organisations, mergers frequently fail to deliver the benefits predicted and many projects overrun on time and/or budget. ChangeGame® enables you to learn, in a safe environment, from the experience of implementing a major change programme. Having undertaken the simulation, you will have a far better appreciation of how to introduce innovation and change within your own part of the organisation. You will have recognised that leading successful change is a combination of your own credibility, good management skills, the adoption of simple but effective strategies and a dedication to involving the people who will be affected by the change - as well as those who are critical to effecting the change

Who will benefit

Anybody involved with introducing and managing change in an organisation.

Duration

One day

Event Outline

Your goal is to introduce a new initiative and to reduce people's resistance to change, throughout a simulated Company. You have 27 activities that you can combine and recombine together, in a variety of ways over a maximum of 18 time periods. During the simulation you, usually working in teams of three, develop and "play" strategies to bring about a major change within an organisation. The Change Game embodies the concept that success is not solely based on successfully acquiring and deploying staff to deliver the necessary programmes. It recognises the "real politic" that you have a personal standing within the organisation and that there are personal costs whenever you try to initiate a change and personal rewards when you succeed. This concept of a your "personal currency" [or credibility] is measured in TECs, the personal Time and Effort you invest, together with the Confidence the organisation has in your ability. In order to initiate an activity, you have to use some of your TECs and the consequential payback in TECs depends on the success or failure of your decisions. There are objective measures throughout the exercise for how the organisational change is progressing and also for the change in the your "personal standing". And, just as in the real world, success breeds success. The more successful you become, the "easier" it gets to undertake the more complex activities that will bring about lasting change within the organisation.

During the simulation you will also be required to respond to a number of challenges that may threaten a major change initiative. These exercises and plenary sessions, to discuss lessons learnt, enable you to explore how you can become a more effective change agent within your organisation.

Preparation

Whilst the event can be successfully run without its participants having received any prior training/development in change management the simulation will typically follow on from an Achieving Sustainable Change workshop. Alternatively a one-day ChangeChallenge workshop can be held the day before the ChangeGame is played.
